Diabetes Self-Management Education Class
This 4-hour class is designed to give participants a basic overview of diabetes and how to manage their condition.
Topics include:
- Understanding how the body processes food into energy
- Importance of – and how to – track blood glucose levels
- How to create a meal plan to maintain healthy blood sugar levels
- Review of different medications or devices that people may use to help manage their condition
- Importance of staying healthy and managing their diabetes to avoid common complications of the disease
People with a diagnosis of Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes
(new diagnosis or have been living with diabetes but hasn’t attended class)
Classes are offered at 2 in-person locations.

Every month there are 4 classes offered at the Peninsula / Newport News location:
1st Wednesday of each month, 8 am – 12 pm
2nd Monday of each month, 4 pm – 8 pm
2nd Friday of each month from 8am – 12 pm
4th Monday of each month, 12 pm – 4 pm
4th Friday of each month, 8 am – 12 pm
Every month there is 1 class offered at the Williamsburg location:
2nd Thursday of each month, 8 am – 12 pm
